Have you ever wondered what goes into choosing the ingredients for a new product?
Since the ‘Raindrops on Roses’ needed to be perfect for sensitive skin we wanted to steer clear of essential oils. Initially we thought it would be pretty straightforward – all we needed was an organic hydrosol (this is the water that’s left over from the distillation of an essential oil) with a lovely aroma.
How wrong we were in thinking it would be easy!
We searched everywhere for the right hydrosol to use but we kept bumping into brick walls. The hardest thing of all was to find a gorgeous one that was also organic but we eventually found 2 that were potential candidates – Rose Otto and Lavender.

Rose came out as the clear winner.
Rose Otto (or rose oil) is created through a delicate process of steam distilling roses and is renowned for its ability to hydrate, firm, tone and smooth the skin making it look fresh, vibrant and healthy.
The Rose Otto that we’re using is quite unique in that it’s the only hydrosol that is not created as a waste product of essential oil manufacture – this one is created specifically for the hydrosol and its unique skincare benefits.
We are using only the highest quality organic Rose Otto from Bulgaria and it is especially made under fair trade guidelines for its fragrant rose water.
But on its own the rose water has a very strong fragrance that is quite overpowering. We needed to blend it with something to soften the aroma but without diluting the skin benefits.
Organic Aloe Vera Juice was the answer.
We all know how fantastic Aloe Vera is so we don’t need to go into too much detail. The reason it is so incredible is that it contains vitamins A, B1, B2, B6, B12, C, E and 20 of the 22 essential amino acids needed for cell renewal and repair.

At this point we needed to show restraint because it is usually where we are tempted to add every fantastic ingredient we can think of. Just like you probably have your list of favourite foods or movies, we skincare junkies have our favourite ingredients that we’re just busting to put into our products!
