Low Tox Tips - Simple ways to lower your toxic load

  • 2 min read

Who loves a good stat? Because we are about to throw a really heavy one at you. Get ready to catch.

There over 80 000 synthetic chemicals available for use in everyday products. A mere 2% have been assessed for safety (from the U.S. President’s Cancer Panel Report 2010).

Every day we’re exposed to a cocktail of toxins and chemicals that’s affecting all parts of our health - physical, mental and spiritual.

There are toxins on our food, in our house, in the air we breathe and the water we drink, in cleaning products, toiletries and clothes. We can’t escape.

What are the culprits? There are way too many for us to include them all here, but think heavy metals, mercury and lead, petrochemicals, radiation, pollution, parabens, phthalates, pesticides and fertilizers. The list goes on… and it’s not a very pretty picture.

We think that scare-mongering is very uncool - so please don’t think that’s what we’re doing - but here’s another heavy stat for you.

The average newborn baby has up to 300 known toxins in his or her umbilical cord blood (from the Environmental Working Group 10 Americans talk in 2012).

What happens if your toxic load gets too high?

To simplify it wildly, you get sick and gain weight.

Luckily the human body is a pretty incredible machine and for the most part it deals with your daily toxic load by detoxing naturally. But with all the constant bombardment of toxic crap, it could do with a little help.

You can make some really simple changes

If you don’t want to be a Mack Truck loaded with toxins then here are some simple changes you can make to lighten the toxic load for you and your family.

  1. Ditch the aluminium antiperspirant– being a Woohoo Warrior you’re probably all over this like white (or should I say brown?) on rice. Don’t just go natural with your deodorant. Go all out and convert you whole bathroom to natural products.
  2. Don’t carry mobile phones in your pockets or sleep with them in your bedroom (or if you do need to sleep with your phone switch it to Flight Mode).
  3. Drink water out of Glass or BPA free bottles
  4. Wash your fruit and veg so you are not eating pesticides (and eat organic when you can)
  5. Don’t cook with Teflon coated pots and pans
  6. Make your own all surface cleaner with vinegar and essential oils or switch to natural cleaners.
  7. Avoid fragrance. Whether its candles, cleaners, perfume, cologne or toiletries, synthetic fragrance is one to ditch.
  8. Add more plants to your living areas. Plants are awesome removing unwanted toxins from our home, office or man cave.

See we said they were simple.
